Days of Our Hives

In this workshop we explore the kingdom of the social insects.   In this society, individuals are given ranks, allocated duties and are controlled by a hierarchy, which turns a teaming mass of creepy crawlies into a well organized, efficient “super-organism”.

This workshop gives students the chance to get up close & examine a live colony of native stingless bees!

Using ants, bees, termites and wasps as examples, we look at how leaders are chosen, construction of nests, collecting food, caring for young and defense within these vast cities of insects.  This is a great workshop for students learning about
ants as part of the Year 2 Net.
